Through the years, Celine Dion has been adamant in trying to realize the idea of making a film musical about her life. The 54-year-old singer wanted a film adaptation that concentrates on her relationship with her late husband Rene Angelil, instead of a film focused on her career.
The singer who shared a touching tribute to her late husband earlier this year has always adored her husband so much and wanted a film about their story.
As someone who’s always had dreams of having her life turned into a film adaptation, the singer also had someone in mind to portray her character.
She’s always been set on having Angelina Jolie play the lead role in a film based on her life. However, the actress wasn’t as keen on doing the film as she was and declined the offer.
This decision has taken the singer by surprise since she always thought that they were in good terms.
Celine Dion Already Approved The Film
The singer who owns a $1.2 million Las Vegas mansion has already approved the project for the film adaptation of her life. Aside for giving the go signal for the project to move forward, she has also given the production the rights to use her songs on the film including some of her greatest hits like My Heart Will Go On, The Power Of Love and All By Myself.
The film will assume the title The Power Of Love which will detail the singing career, life and music of Celine Dion. It is reportedly being put together by the French studio Gaumont. The said film will be following the childhood life of Dion during her time in Quebec. The movie will also include her journey to stardom until she settled with her husband and manager Rene Angelil, who sadly passed away due to throat cancer in 2016.
The French studio Gaumont announced in January 2019 that the film will not be a biopic but a film that will pay homage to the singer’s life and career instead. The film will heavily rely on the details of her life through the years. The film will be directed by French actress turned director Valerie Lemercier who was personally inspired by the singer.
The story will revolve around a woman named Aline who is a young woman who grew up in a pretty large Canadian family. She was then discovered as a talent with great potential in her teens which is pretty much what happened to the famous singer.
Angelina Jolie Turned Down A Celine Dion Biopic
Angelina Jolie and Celine Dion are apparently good friends however the actress just had to turn down the project since she was too busy. Through the years, the actress who spends a fortune for bodyguards has always had a great relationship with the singer, in fact, Jolie’s kids were seen wearing Dion’s clothing line CELINUNUNU.
A close friend of Jolie claimed “Angelina puts her kids in these clothes because she likes the designs but also because she respects where Celine is coming from.”
With all these things combined, it’s not surprising why Dion wanted Jolie to lead her biopic.
The decision of Angelina Jolie to turn down the film is understandable since she wasn’t really accepting film offers during that time. She has been busy on charities and politics on top of being a great mother to her kids. With her divorce proceedings going on at that time, she wanted to be with her kids as much as possible to avoid some trauma of the breakup.
Celine Dion’s Reaction After Angelina Jolie Rejected The Film Offer
It was reported that the singer was apparently distraught after hearing that Angelina Jolie turned down the offer to play Celine Dion in a film. Although the co-star of Johnny Depp in The Tourist had a valid reason to turn down the project, it’s not surprising that the Canadian singer was devastated upon hearing the news since the pair was apparently good friends.
A close friend of the 54 years old singer revealed to RadarOnline that the singer has always been passionate and interested in the musical film adaptation of her life and career.
An insider went on to tell RadarOnline “Their friendship surely won’t survive this, and after losing out on a leading lady of Angie’s level, this may be the end of the project altogether.” The singer wanted her fans and her kids to see the film happen, and she was apparently dead set on getting Angelina Jolie to do the part.
Although the It's All Coming Back to Me Now singer was devastated, she seems happier these days. She even told Elle magazine: “I am like a one-year-old! I’m not saying that I don’t care what people think of me, but I’ve reached a point in my life where I can let myself make my own decisions and choices."
The then 51-year-old singer further added “Now I am discovering myself more and more. I am a woman assuming her own destiny, full of energy and in love with life. It’s never too late to start. At 51, I have the sense that I am at my pinnacle!
